Report: GM says Carlos Boozer still unsigned because of defense

The NBA offseason has been largely empty of "Holdat!", which is a shame. Carlos Boozer's signature one-liner had become something of a staple for the Los Angeles Lakers, but the free agent big man remains unsigned more than two months into the free agency period this summer.

The Phoenix Suns had been tangentially linked to Boozer to help fill the void if Markieff Morris is traded as he's asked, but outside of those reports, there's been little to indicate Boozer is drawing interest from NBA teams.

There could be a simple reason for that, as Sheridan Hoops' Michael Scotto quotes one NBA general manager as cutting right to the point with Boozer:

"What Boozer scores on the offensive end, he quickly gives back on defense," the GM said.

Like many professional sports, the NBA has a tendency to study, if not outright emulate the tendencies of its recent champion. And the Warriors showed the importance of forwards who can play both ends of the court and switch to defend multiple positions.

That's simply not Boozer. So the cries of "Holdat!" threaten to go silent in the NBA.
