Report: D'Angelo Russell cancels scheduled workout with Philadelphia

Published Jun. 12, 2015 2:59 p.m. ET

Ohio State point guard D'Angelo Russell is projected by many to be selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the third overall pick in this month's draft. He's an incredibly talented ball-handler who in all likelihood will fit comfortably beside Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid.

But what if Russell doesn't workout for the Sixers before draft day arrives? The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey is reporting that Russell cancelled a meeting with the team he's most likely to play for next season:

"D'Angelo Russell canceled this weekend's scheduled workout with the 76ers after getting 'real sick,' according to a source close to the former Ohio State standout. Another source said don’t rule out the franchise securing a workout with Russell in the near future."

This news, combined with recent reports that the Sixers are interested in Latvian seven-foot prospect Kristaps Porzingis, adds significant intrigue to what may happen with the third overall pick. Stay tuned.
