Report: Bulls coaching candidate Alvin Gentry meets with Pelicans
The Chicago Bulls are facing a summer of great uncertainty. After a 4-2 series loss to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers that felt to many like a (failed) referendum on the core and philosophy they've had for years, head coach Tom Thibodeau is likely out the door.
The question of who will replace him is a loaded one. Especially now that one of the rumored lead candidates, Golden State Warriors assistant Alvin Gentry, is said to be meeting with other teams. Yahoo Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Gentry had a recent meeting with the New Orleans Pelicans. New Orleans, as fate would have it, is also interested in bringing Thibodeau on board to lead their crew. Here's Woj:
"Gentry is selling the idea of bringing an offensive system to New Orleans that would benefit star Anthony Davis, in part the way he did for NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry under Steve Kerr with the Warriors, league sources said."
If Gentry eventually signs with the Pels and Thibodeau's supposed top choice is filled, where does that leave the Bulls in their search? A unique coaching carousel will tell us the answer to questions like these for us in the coming weeks.
