Basketball is back. And not just inter-squad scrimmages.

Trail Blazers fans caught a glimpse of competitive basketball yesterday at the fan fest. A Mason Plumlee jumper(!) gave a perfect ending to a fairly competitive scrimmage. However, tonight’s match-up is exponentially more exciting.

Not only will fans get a look at Terry Stotts’ squad versus another team – that team is the Utah Jazz. The NBA media is just finishing up their love fest with the Jazz. Their deep, well rounded squad is getting all the publicity and is now the favorite to win the Northwest division.

Both these teams have young cores entering their primes and have their respective lofty expectations. The Jazz own an elite defense while the Portland possess an extremely efficient offense. The pace of the game could determine the winner in each battle this season between these rivals.

While we are still three weeks away, it’s important to realize these two teams play again in preseason followed by an opening night match-up here at the Moda Center on October 25th. Portland has an interesting preseason slate: the first five regular season opponents square off with the Trail Blazers during preseason. This year’s exhibition games are going to be very competitive and will provide insight to the early part of the regular season.
