Philadelphia 76ers to Debut New Throwback Jerseys

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

After rebranding their logo and putting out new jerseys last season inspired by classic ones, the Philadelphia 76ers will roll out a new uniform this season.

The Philadelphia 76ers are entering a new chapter, but continue to not forget about where the team came from.

The Sixers will be rolling out yet another new uniform this season, inspired by the throwback uniforms that will honor the 1966-67 championship team in Philadelphia.

Starting in Syracuse as the Syracuse Nationals, the team relocated to Philadelphia as the 76ers after the Philadelphia Warriors moved to California. The 1967 team was the first team to win a title since the squad relocated.

According to the Sixers website, the team will wear these throwback jerseys six times throughout the season. The jerseys also feature a patch on the shorts that features the Liberty Bell logo, as well as a “World Champions 1966-1967” ribbon.

That patch will also be depicted at center court on the hardwood for the six games that the Sixers will be wearing these uniforms. Season ticket holders will sign the emblem that will be at center court, and according to the Sixers, this is the first time fan signatures will ever be on an NBA court.

In addition to the new jerseys and the temporary center court logo, the team will roll out different sculptures honoring players such as Wilt Chamberlain and Hal Greer.

For those of you wondering, yes, you can play with these jerseys (as well as the special court) in the upcoming version of NBA 2K. Although the Sixers still don’t have a sleeved jersey, they continue to make strides in the uniform world, as they were the first team to announce their advertisement patch which will debut next season.
