Phil Pressey is once again competing for a job in the NBA

In a few weeks, Portland Trail Blazers guard Phil Pressey will compete in training camp with his NBA life on the line. Again.

This type of stress is nothing new for the former Boston Celtics backup, who had to beat out a few players to earn a spot on their squad the past couple years.

Here's a look from The Oregonian's Mike Richman at Pressey's current situation, and whether he can stay alive for at least one more season:

Pressey is on a non-guaranteed deal but Portland needs a third ball-handler to take pressure off Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum. Will he get the job, or will it go to Tim Frazier? The plot thickens.

The 5-11 point guard went undrafted out of Missouri in 2013. He has posted averages of 3.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 125 games (11 starts) in two seasons with the Celtics. He now finds himself in a familiar situation: entering training camp competing with Tim Frazier for a roster spot. Last year, Pressey beat out Frazier to win the job in Boston and he'll have to do it again to stick with the Blazers, who are extremely unlikely to carry both guards on the roster. Frazier and Pressey are similar players on paper. Like Frazier, Pressey is a pure point guard with natural passing instincts who struggles to shoot the ball. Last season, Pressey shot 36.8 percent from the floor, 24.6 percent from beyond the three-point line and 67.3 percent from the free throw line. He's an impressive leaper, but still a below average finisher at the rim.
