Orlando's Vince Carter sprains left ankle vs. Nets
A Magic spokesman said Carter's return to the game in which he scored 16 points was questionable. He was not on the bench for the start of the second half.
Carter was hurt with about 3:05 left in the quarter when he stepped on the foot of former Nets teammate Devin Harris as he dribbled near the top of the key. The 11-year veteran, who was acquired from New Jersey in the offseason, immediately fell to the floor and clutched his ankle.
Play was not stopped until Yi Jianlian scored a layup for the Nets at the other end of the floor and the Magic brought the ball back into the frontcourt.
Carter lay on the court for about a minute before limping to the Magic bench. He was briefly treated and then went back to the Orlando locker room.
Carter was having a spectacular game against his former teammates. He drove down the right side of the lane for a slam dunk on the opening possession and shot 5 of 7 in the first quarter for 12 points.
Carter and forward Ryan Anderson were shipped to Orlando on the day of the NBA draft for Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston and Tony Battie.
