Nets' First Half Magic Diminishes Against Wizards

It was a tale of two halves. The Brooklyn Nets looked fantastic in the first half, but John Wall took control in the second, scoring 25 points and dishing out 13 assists to win a close one in Brooklyn. Brooklyn falls to 5-15 on the season.
Brook Lopez led the Brooklyn Nets in scoring with 25 points. Sean Kilpatrick (averaging 22 points per game in his last six games) scored 21 points on 66.7% shooting. The returning Trevor Booker racked up a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Booker returned from illness very energetic and contributed eight points and three rebounds just in the first quarter. Both Lopez and Bojan Bogdanovic were tied to lead the Nets at the end of the first with nine points, but Bogie was shooting 100 percent from the field to give the Nets a 32-29 lead.
The Nets were shooting 67 percent from the field going into the second quarter. Anthony Bennett, coming off a career game, made two threes in his first two minutes and ended the half with six points, one rebound, and one assist in seven minutes.
The Nets led the Wizards 66-51 at halftime. Lopez seemed determined to make up for his poor shooting performance against Milwaukee, shooting 6-of-10 for 16 points to lead Brooklyn in scoring. The Nets’ largest lead of the half was 16. They averaged 21 assists per game as a team coming into the game and dished out 17 at halftime. The Nets also shot 50 percent from three-point range and 56.6 percent from the field overall. Brooklyn didn’t struggle on the boards either, grabbing 27 to Washington’s 19.

Isaiah Whitehead was the only Net in the starting lineup not score in double digits at halftime, while John Wall was the only Wizard to do so.
The Nets’ third quarter woes continued tonight, as they were outscored 32-15. The Wizards opened the third quarter with a 10-0 run before Kenny Atkinson called a timeout to compose the team. The team went over the limit in fouls with over five minutes left in the quarter, as the Wizards came back to take a lead following free throws, 76-74. The Nets’ turnovers resulted in 10 steals and a lead for Washington. Washington led 83-81 at the end of the third.
Wall took control of the contest in the fourth quarter, so much that Atkinson felt the need to bench Whitehead for the rest of the game. The Wizards outscored the Nets 35 to 32 in the fourth to close the game out.
This is the Nets’ third straight loss and their 11th straight game they have allowed their opponent to score over 110 points.
Rookie Caris LeVert was activated for the first time in his young NBA career but did not play. The Nets play Denver on Wednesday.
