Martin considering Lakers, Nets?

Published Aug. 7, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Kenyon Martin isn't the player he once was, but the 34-year-old has shown that he can still be a valuable contributor off the bench, and he therefore wants to be paid as such.

Martin is considering the Lakers and Nets in free agency, according to Sports Illustrated's Sam Amick.

The forward is reportedly holding up signing with a new team, though. This comes despite him having lost most of his negotiation leverage in the wake of other frontcourt free agents signing for the veteran's minimum.

As Amick points out, Martin joins the likes of Leandro Barbosa, Jermaine O'Neal, Matt Barnes, Mickael Pietrus, Josh Howard, Michael Redd, Louis Amundson, Joel Przybilla and Anthony Tolliver as players waiting longer than normal for a job.

Martin averaged 5.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in 22.4 minutes per game with the Clippers last season. Those all represent career lows, but he was still very efficient and could be a nice piece off the bench for a contending team.

First, Martin will have to realize where the market stands.
