LeBron James not playing against Mavs, rest before playoffs

CLEVELAND (AP) Cavaliers star LeBron James will sit out against Dallas, part of the team's plan to rest him before the playoffs.

Coach Tyronn Lue announced the decision not to play James about 90 minutes before Wednesday night's tipoff against the Mavericks. The Cavs are 0-2 without James this season and 3-12 when he doesn't play over the past two seasons.

Lue said he chose to sit James following the team's four-game road trip. The Cavs played at Utah on Monday and traveled back to Cleveland on Tuesday.

Lue said James will play in games at Orlando and Miami this weekend.

James is averaging 24.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.5 assists. Lue said the rest of the Cavs need to step up without the four-time league MVP.

Cleveland has a two-game lead over Toronto for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
