Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry shine in preseason finale

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

It wasn’t as balanced as the team would prefer, but the Golden State Warriors got huge nights from Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry in their preseason finale.

With the warmest of goodbyes, the Golden State Warriors moved on from the preseason on Friday night. In a game that lacked balance, but had plenty of highlights, the Warriors were able to defeat the Portland Trail Blazers behind big nights from their two superstars, by a score of 107-96.

Just like most games between Portland and Golden State, there was nothing but shooting an offense between the two teams. The Trail Blazers were making their shots and Stephen Curry was making his. The problem was the rest of the Warriors were struggling to make theirs.

That trend would continue for most of the night, until Kevin Durant started to get hot from the field. In 30 minutes of play on the night, Durant would score 28 points to go with six assists and seven rebounds.

Curry would turn in a more ridiculous night with 35 points in 28 minutes of action. If that doesn’t sound crazy enough for a stat sheet, he would make eight out of 13 from beyond the arc. With the win, the Warriors finished with six straight preseason wins and a 6-1 record overall.

If there is any cause for concern to come out of this game, it was the rest of the team’s inability to get anything going. Klay Thompson and Draymond Green struggled offensively and so did the bench, save for Ian Clark.

In a way, that could be a bit of a silver lining too. This team has enough superstars that when a couple go cold, there is someone that is guaranteed to shoot the ball well and carry his team. So it’s goodbye to the preseason and hello to the regular season. The San Antonio Spurs are in town Tuesday and it should be a great way to tip off the championship pursuit.
