Kevin Durant angry about lost season, won't watch playoffs

Kevin Durant’s 2014-15 NBA regular season campaign was completely derailed — even before it began — due to a litany of injuries. In light of his comments during exit interviews on Thursday, the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar has been left completely frustrated with his injury-riddled season. Even more, Durant has been left embittered by all the talk and apparent skepticism surrounding his lost season and can’t wait to come out and prove any and all of his doubters wrong.

“I’m definitely pissed,” Durant said via ESPN’s Royce Young. “I heard a lot of stuff during this time I’ve been injured from everybody. From different people. Definitely pissed. Can’t wait until the first game.”

Durant’s season practically was over before it started, beginning with a diagnosis of a Jones fracture in his right foot in early October. He underwent surgery and the recovery robbed him of the season’s first 17 games.

Durant played sporadically the remainder of the season before another minor surgical procedure to reduce pain and discomfort in his surgically repaired right foot in February. After expressing in early March there was “no doubt” he would return before season’s end, lingering soreness led to the determination that Durant would be shut down for the season. Bone graft surgery followed in late March, with a recovery time optimistically estimated to be between four and six months.

All told, Durant played in only 27 games.

The Thunder, led by whirling dervish Russell Westbrook came up just short of reaching the postseason, and Durant said being unable to help the team was hard on him, calling it “definitely been the toughest year I’ve ever had playing basketball.”

But Durant is all about the future now, eady to do whatever it takes to return to the floor as good as ever.

“But I know for sure I’ll be back. I know I’ll put the work in,” he said. “I know that I’m never going to just quit on anything, so I’m going to keep working until I get back right.”

Meanwhile, Durant said he is in no mood to take in any NBA postseason action anytime soon. When asked if he intended to watch the playoffs, Durant bluntly stated, “Hell no.”

Fair enough.
