Josh Smith is an underrated passer

One man's trash is another man's treasure. After last night's game between the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, this old saying is never more appropriate to describe Josh Smith.

Waived by the Detroit Pistons earlier this season, Smith was a maestro for Houston in Game 2, orchestrating eight assists, delivering alley-oop lobs like Oprah gives away free cars. It was awesome. He was amazing.

In fact, according to the Washington Post's Fancy Stats blog, Smith's passing has been taken for granted for years, and it's about time everyone pays attention.

"His passing has long been particularly overlooked. Though it’s an imperfect measure of overall playmaking ability, Smith’s career assist percentage of 16.5 percent is higher than that of Marc Gasol (14.6 percent), Joakim Noah (15.8 percent), Kevin Love (12.6 percent) and Dirk Nowitzki (13 percent) among others."

If Smith continues to play like this, the Rockets are all but a lock to advance.
