Isaiah Thomas ejected from first game with Boston Celtics
Apparently, basketball games aren't 48 minutes for everyone. The newest Boston Celtic now knows this.
Right before Thursday's trade deadline, the Celtics acquired the Phoenix Suns' Isaiah Thomas, who premiered for Boston on Sunday. His debut didn't exactly go as planned. From ESPN's Chris Forsberg:
Isaiah Thomas was ejected in the fourth quarter of his debut for the Boston Celtics during Sunday's overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Thomas got whistled for a questionable offensive foul in a four-point game with a little more than five minutes to play in regulation, then slammed the ball into the court in frustration. Referee Tony Brothers, who whistled the initial infraction, issued Thomas a technical foul for the outburst, then followed with a second quick technical after Thomas flipped the ball in his direction.
"I actually asked [for an explanation] and [Brothers] just said that he called the first tech for slamming the ball, then the second one for throwing the ball at him," said Stevens, who stared a hole through Brothers from the sideline after the ejection. "So that was the explanation I was given."
Thomas is known as a fiery, competitive personality, but he's not always one to get tossed. Those technical fouls were only his third and fourth of the season, and it was only the second time of his career that he's been ejected from a game, earning his first during 2013-14 as a member of the Sacramento Kings.
The Celtics, who trail the Brooklyn Nets by two games for the No. 8 seed in the East, next play Thomas' former team, the Suns, Monday evening.
