Is Joe Dumars already advising the Pelicans?
After firing Monty Williams on Tuesday, the Pelicans find themselves in need of a head coach. But their current general manager, Dell Demps, may want to keep one eye over his own shoulder, too.
A recent report from CBS Sports' Ken Berger says former Detroit Pistons general manager Joe Dumars is the one really making decisions, not actual Demps:
"But league sources pointed out Tuesday that the people whose names were on the press release may not be the ones making the decision. Former Pistons executive Joe Dumars, a Louisiana native, has been providing input with the team and has a close relationship with Loomis and owner Tom Benson."
After winning a championship in 2004, Dumars spent the next decade making questionable decision after questionable decision, eventually turning a once-proud franchise into the awful product it is today.
New Orleans is a mess right now. Williams had no idea he was getting fired, and the decision came just weeks after owner Tom Benson wrote him a letter of support for making the playoffs. Who knows what's next for this organization? They better have their ducks in a row before Anthony Davis gets upset. Hiring Dumars would be a colossal mistake.
