Houston Rockets Video Diary - Practice: K.J. McDaniels

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

With the onset of training camp K.J. McDaniels returns with hopes the new coaching staff will lead to expanded opportunity.

Houston Rockets fans sure hope they get to witness consistent minutes for the wing man K.J. McDaniels who has a ceiling well north of what they’ve seen.  Observing his athleticism in Vegas Summer League only served to whet the appetites of the Clutch City faithful.

K.J. McDaniels most notable moment last season came via a foul barrage of 5 fouls in 9 seconds. Not exactly the stuff dreams are made of.  So, it was not unexpected to hear the young physically gifted wing was anxious for a new regime to begin.

Hopefully new head coach Mike D’Antoni or defensive assistant coach Jeff Bzdelik will utilize the untapped gifts of McDaniles this season.

Here’s the small forward’s post September 24th practice comments.

Most noteworthy was McDaniels saying coach Mike D’Antoni will let them compete for jobs and playing time. Obviously Harden, Anderson, Gordon, Beverley and Capella’s minutes are solidified. But outside those 5 playing time is up for grabs.

In addition, McDaniels noted the up tempo offensive style and transition game D’Antoni wants to run suits his game.

Asked what he focused on in his offseason K.J. noted he worked on ball handling,  shooting specifically getting up reps and working to push the ball in transition. .
