Houston prepared to go small if that's Golden State's gameplan
The Golden State Warriors are a modern, versatile team that can play just about any style of basketball their opponent calls for. But they're arguably at their best with Draymond Green at center and a bunch of interchangeable athletes on the wing.
If the Warriors go to this lineup in Game 2, the Houston Rockets will be ready for it. Here's the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen with more on what Kevin McHale had to say about this particular match up:
“I’d love to be able to go big against this Warriors team. We’ve got to punish them on the boards. We had 14 offensive rebounds. The problem is so did they. But five or six, seven of those were driven by their guards coming in and rebounding from the perimeter. We’ve got to do a better job of that. If they go super small, believe me, there are holes in that lineup. We’ve just got to exploit them.”
Houston struggled to keep Golden State off the glass in Game 1, and it led to several put-back buckets and open threes. The Rockets absolutely need to eliminate those extra opportunities if they plan on taking advantage of the Warriors' lack of size in Game 2. Doing so would greatly increase their chance of winning the game.
