Here are five realistic players the Rockets can acquire this summer
The Houston Rockets are in need of a secondary scoring option, and here are five realistic options they can set out to acquire this summer, whether via a trade or free agent signing.
They may not have the flashiest names, but all can score and create their own shot. One possibility is Charlotte Hornets backup point guard Mo Williams:
"Last season, he averaged 14.2 points and 6.2 assists. He shot a 55.2 effective field-goal percentage on catch-and-shoots, including a 41.3 three-point percentage. And 257 of his 341 field goals were off the dribble. Williams can also distribute. Last year, the Hornets effective field-goal percentage was a league-worst 45.6 but 49.2 percent off Williams’ passes, indicating his positive influence on shooters. The Timberwolves shot roughly the same with or without him. But remember, the primary passer there was Ricky Rubio."
After Kemba Walker went down with a knee injury last season, Williams nearly saved Charlotte's season, picking up a scoring load as the team's starting point guard. They ultimately fell short of the postseason, but that wasn't Williams' fault.
It's hard to argue that he's the missing link between where Houston is today and a championship, but adding someone like Williams as a solid scorer off the bench would definitely make the Rockets better.
