Here are five realistic players Boston can acquire this summer
This summer is shaping up to be an important one for the Boston Celtics. They have four draft picks (and half a million more over the next few years), gobs of cap space and are coming off a surprising postseason run.
The rebuild has accelerated faster than most expected, and it means Boston is already in a place where they can bring in some serious talent. Courtesy of Bleacher Report's Grant Rindner, here's a look at five players the Celtics can realistically acquire over the next couple months, including Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson:
"The Bulls would have trouble dealing Joakim Noah after a poor season, and Nikola Mirotic shined as a rookie, meaning the only viable trade options in Chicago’s frontcourt are Pau Gasol and Gibson. Gibson would instantly become Boston’s best frontcourt defender, providing them with some much-needed rim protection that no one on the current roster is capable of. He’s athletic enough to play effective help defense and is no slouch guarding one-on-one either."
Trading for Gibson would be interesting. He's exactly the defensive presence they need, but he'll also be 30 years old next season, which doesn't fit into Boston's current timeline. They skew younger.
He'd definitely make them better over the next two seasons, but at what cost? Surrendering a future first-round pick may be too much, and that's exactly what the Bulls would be looking for. Which team blinks first?
