Did the Nuggets ruin their chances in 2016 free agency?

The Denver Nuggets had a busy offseason, trading Ty Lawson to the Houston Rockets and locking up a few pieces of their core on long-term deals.

Did the Nuggets actually make a mistake by extending veteran small forwards Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari, though?

"The Nuggets must have some appeal if they were able to keep Chandler and Gallinari away from free agency by giving them long-term extensions. Still, one wonders why Denver was so determined to lock both players in when doing so basically takes the Nuggets out of the 2016 free agency chase -- with a roster that isn't anywhere near good enough at present to contend for a title."
