Could Paul Millsap be Dirk Nowitzki's successor?

Published Jun. 10, 2015 1:38 p.m. ET

Although he still has some good basketball left in him, eventually the Dallas Mavericks will need someone to replace Dirk Nowitzki at the power forward spot.

With the Mavericks expected to be active in free agency this offseason, it's not improbable that Nowitzki's successor while be signed now and will play out the twilight of Nowitzki's career alongside him.

While Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldrdige is a popular name due to his Texas ties, another productive power forward could be an interesting fit as well.

Here's more from Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News:

"Paul Millsap's scoring, rebounding, 3-point shooting and ballhandling all improved from his years in Utah. And he showed what he’s about when he signed a two-year free-agent deal in 2013 for $19-million. He’s set to cash in again because of the way he’s played in Atlanta. The Mavericks have a need for a power forward with Dirk Nowitzki declining. Millsap will turn 31 next season."
