Chris Bosh on calls for him to retire: 'I get it'

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh says his heart is still with basketball, and can’t bring himself to just walk away from the sports he loves.

With Pat Riley publicly declaring that the Miami Heat are moving on from Chris Bosh after his latest failed physical, the team has to move forward with how they will rid themselves of his contract.

Bosh is due almost $76 million over the next three seasons, with a cap hit upwards of $20 million per year. Those figures have led many to wonder why Bosh would continue to try to play, rather than take the money and run.

He has made it clear he won’t be calling it a career without a fight, however, Bosh understands why some people think he should.

Via Uninterrupted:

What I would say to people who just see the money and then kind of see my situation and say, “Hey, just walk away.” I get it. I totally get. I understand it. I hear you.

But I’m not really thinking about money. I’m just thinking about where my heart is. It’s just about I love the NBA. I love playing basketball every day for a living.

So, yeah, I hear you. It’s right there. And that’s kind of been the part that makes me confused is because it’s just right there. All I have to do is walk way. Think about that more so. All I have to do is just leave. You’ll never hear from me again. I’ll probably just do other things, and I’ll be fine. And that makes it confusing, because my heart – I know where my heart is. And I just would feel like I’m giving up if I just walked away, just easily like that.

I wrote about why Bosh refuses to give up so easily for FanSided. He’s fought too hard to get to this level to just give up.

However, he does sound like he may be wavering. He mentioned he was confused, and admitted he has plenty of reasons to let go of his basketball playing career.

The Heat are certainly hoping Bosh makes it easy for them, because they will need the cap space to replace him.
