Chicago Bulls Surge in Power Rankings

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

This isn’t a trick – the Chicago Bulls are still unbeaten. Entering their Halloween matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, it’s been all treat for Chicago’s fans. And it isn’t just Bulls fans that are noticing. CBS Sports has Chicago surging up their power rankings.

If you find the Bulls impressive performances against the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers surprising, you aren’t alone. Matt Moore, of CBS Sports and Hardwood Paroxysm, moved the team 16 spots in his power rankings after Chicago impressed, beating two teams that almost everyone projects to finish well ahead of the Bulls this season.

Chicago has earned the spike in their rating. It might only be a week into the season, and just two games for the Bulls, but big wins over Boston and Indiana have everyone, including our staff at PAE, re-thinking the potential of this team.

The hot start is exciting, but everything comes with the caveat of the season only being two games old. It will be hard to project anything accurately based on such a small sample size, but fans should enjoy the sun while it shines.

Both wins were home games against teams that were playing the almighty SEGABABA (second game of a back-to-back). It will be interesting to see if Jimmy Butler, Dwyane Wade and friends can continue their impressive start to the season when they are forced to take to the road, playing a similar upstart in the Jeremy Lin-led Nets.

The success isn’t solely due to the starting lineup and new additions. Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott have been major contributors. Gibson kept Al Horford at bay early in the season opener against the Celtics and McDermott came off the bench firing, shooting 5-for-6 from 3-point range, against the Pacers.

Chicago is currently No. 4 in the CBS rankings right now and probably won’t finish the season that high. Where do you think the Bulls should be ranked right now and where do you think they’ll finish the season? Let us know in the comments.
