Charlotte Hornets vs Boston Celtics: Key Moments in Second Preseason Game

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Charlotte Hornets started strong against the Boston Celtics but ended up suffered their second  straight defeat in the preseason.

The Charlotte Hornets lost their second preseason game to the Boston Celtics, 107-92. The Queen City team had a strong start but a third quarter push from Boston won them the game. Jeremy Lamb led the way with 16 points in this one.

The Charlotte Hornets had somewhat of a bounce back game as they were more impressive during the first half of this match than they were in their last outing against the Dallas Mavericks. They are now 0-2 in the preseason.

This game took place at the Greensboro Coliseum and was the team’s first outing at the new home of their D-League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, for this season. It was a great way to give back to the community outside of Charlotte. It was also a preview for some of the players who will play with the Swarm this season.

More from Swarm and Sting

    First Quarter

Kemba Walker started the game for Charlotte but was on a minutes restriction. The first nine minutes of the game were his only minutes. He recorded four points, three assists, and two rebounds in the short time on the court. The Hornets trailed for most of the first but went on a 9-0 run to close out the quarter to take a 23-22 lead.

    Second Quarter

The home team built on their lead in the second quarter after a strong first half performance from Ramon Sessions. Charlotte’s back-up point guard scored 11 points to lead the way. The Hornets shot 47% from the field in the first half and led 51-44 at the break.

    Third Quarter

Charlotte were flat to start the second half. They played poor on both ends of the floor and Boston took advantage by going on a 29-4 run in the third. After the dreadful start to the half, the Hornets slowly tried to claw their way back. The Celtics ended up leading 84-70 at the end of the quarter.

    Fourth Quarter

The Hornets bench played for most of the fourth with Treveon Graham getting his first preseason action. Even with a valiant effort in the closing quarter, the Celtics extended their lead by one point in the final 12 minutes. Boston won 107-92.

    Highlight of the Night:

There were a few highlight plays in this one but this back-door pass from Hawes to Lamb for the dunk was just great!

This is game one of a back-to-back against the Celtics during the preseason. The next match will take place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on October 8th. Boston will be the home team in that one as they look to bring game to a smaller community outside of their city.
