Celtics Rondo: Saving up in case of NBA lockout

Published Oct. 22, 2010 5:25 p.m. ET

Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo says he's saving his money as if the lockout is going to happen.

Reacting to NBA Commissioner David Stern's comments that he wants player salaries cut by one-third, Rondo said he wants to be prepared.

Rondo is the Celtics' alternate player representative. He says he's ''saving a lot of money this year.''

Rondo is scheduled to earn $9 million this season.

Stern said Thursday that the league and its owners spend $2.1 billion on salaries and benefits. He said he's looking to slash $750 to $800 million in payroll.

The labor agreement expires after this season. Both sides have said they believe they can reach an agreement that would prevent a work stoppage.
