Cavs waive DeSagana Diop, others

The Cavaliers waived center DeSagana Diop and three others to trim their roster to the NBA's 15-player limit.

Diop, who was drafted by Cleveland in 2001, was released along with guards Jermaine Taylor and Elliot Williams and forward Kenny Kadji. Diop averaged just four minutes in three preseason games.

The Cavs weren't required to trim their roster until Sunday, but the moves before the deadline appear to give forward Henry Sims and point guard Matthew Dellavedova the final spots.

Sims played well in the exhibition season, averaging 6.1 points and 5.1 rebounds. Coach Mike Brown praised Sims for his toughness, defense and an underrated shot. Sims was cut by the New York Knicks before last season.
