Cavs G Gibson hurts ankle

Published Jan. 7, 2011 4:18 a.m. ET

Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson didn't travel with Cleveland on a five-game trip after spraining his left ankle in a loss to Toronto.

Gibson was injured during the third quarter Wednesday night in a 120-105 loss, the Cavaliers' eighth straight and 18th in 19 games. It's not yet known how long Gibson, averaging 13.7 points, will be sidelined. He had just returned after missing two games with a thigh injury.

The team said in a release Thursday night that Gibson underwent an MRI that confirmed the sprain. He will remain in Cleveland getting treatment.

Gibson's injury is another blow to the Cavaliers, who at 8-27, have the worst record in the Eastern Conference. Forward Leon Powe also didn't leave with the team because of a knee bruise.

Also, Anthony Parker, who missed Wednesday's game with a stiff back, is questionable for Friday night's game at Golden State. Center Anderson Varejao sprained his left ankle during practice Wednesday and is also questionable. He is playing with a plastic mask to protect a broken cheekbone.
