The Washington Wizards are a different basketball team when Otto Porter plays well. During last year's postseason, the second-year wing broke out and averaged 10.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
He also shot an impressive 37.5 percent from behind the three-point line. That improvement was a tremendously positive sign for the entire Wizards' organization. Will it carry over into this season? Here's more from The Washington Post:
Porter's three-point shot is important, but so is his ability to defend multiple positions. If he can lock down opposing wings and guards, it'll allow Bradley Beal and John Wall to focus more on their offensive responsibilities.
And if Porter can score a bit on his own, then, well, this team may very well sprint to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Porter explained one of his personal goals is to improve his three-point percentage — he shot 34.5 percent from beyond the arc between the regular season and playoffs — so he focused on corner three-pointers during the offseason after shooting 25 for 61 (40.9 percent) from the corners last season. “He took another step last year in his improvement and development as a player, and now you want to see a third step,” Wittman said. “And that’s what you want to work with, the little things he’s got to add. He’s got to get a little bit stronger. Just his continued growth, just like we talked about with Brad and John [Wall] when they were younger coming in. That’s what good players do.”
