Brett Brown: Dellavedova 'had this Neanderthal approach'

Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown is familiar with Cleveland Cavaliers backup point guard Matthew Dellavedova, and may be the only person in the country who isn't totally surprised by the Australian's 20-point performance in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

Here's what Brown had to say about the plucky guard, courtesy of Inside Bay Area's Jeff Faraudo:

"'I don't mean this as an insult at all, but he had this Neanderthal approach,' Brown told the Philadelphia Daily News, recalling 2009 when he coached the Australian national team. 'He was (Jack) Dempsey in a ring, not (Muhammad) Ali. A street fighter and a gritty one and it wasn't pretty. He certainly never boasted extreme athleticism. When you saw him in his young ages, you had an immediate attraction to his toughness and a curiosity and uncertainty about where he would end up.'"

Well, somehow, someway, Dellavedova wound up on top of the basketball world, two wins away from being the starting point guard on an NBA champion. Sports are crazy.
