AP Source: Heat lose Udrih for remainder of season

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 11:05 a.m. ET

MIAMI (AP) A person with knowledge of the situation says Miami Heat backup point guard Beno Udrih will have season-ending surgery on his right foot this week.

Udrih had an MRI on Tuesday, one day after he got hurt in Miami's win over Indiana. After the MRI, Udrih and team doctors determined surgery was the best option, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither the Heat nor Udrih had revealed anything publicly.

The exact nature of the injury has not been revealed.

Udrih's injury leaves Miami with 10 players. The Heat are missing Chris Bosh because of a blood clot, Tyler Johnson because of shoulder surgery and have two open roster spots. Yahoo Sports first reported Udrih's need for surgery.
