Adidas is releasing a line of “Run-DMC” inspired apparel that feels very Golden State Warriors inspired.

Adidas has unveiled a new line on the NBA Store’s website that looks really familiar for Golden State Warriors fans. They’ve released a line of shirts and sweatshirts that say “Run” and the city name. Sounds like something we all know, right?

The series is inspired by the iconic rap trio, Run-DMC. The group famously wore Adidas. They also have a pretty recognizable logo, the word “Run” stacked on top of “DMC” all in between two horizontal lines.

Now, this wouldn’t raise any eyebrows except for the fact that an important part of Golden State history was inspired by the “Walk This Way” artists. The Warriors of the mid-1990’s are known as the “Run-TMC” Warriors, with each letter signifying one of their three stars. The “T” was for Tim Hardaway, the “M” was for Mitch Richmond, and the “C” was for Chris Mullin.

It’s not just a term among fans, the team and the league recognize. Stance sells a pair of socks with those three stars that are called “Run TMC.” It’s a universal fact.

That’s what they look like. The Warriors one says “Run GSW.” Of course, Adidas is just combining two of their moneymakers to capitalize as much as they can. The “Run-TMC” nickname is so recognizable for basketball fans and the Bay Area has eaten it up. Why not the rest of the league? But it’s still a little weird.

It’s just further proof that the Warriors are #LightYears ahead of everyone else. Their moniker from the 90’s is resurfacing now and fans of other teams are going to buy it. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? It’s just further proof that the NBA now revolves around Golden State.

I guess it makes sense though. The Warriors are going to wear jerseys inspired by those teams. And Golden State will definitely be running each team off the court this year.
