A Tradition Like No Other: The Indiana Pacers Send Georges Niang Out for Donuts
Georges Niang isn’t the first rookie the Indiana Pacers have sent out on a donut run.
Being a rookie in the NBA is often the fulfillment of a life-long dream of playing a sport at its highest level. It also means you deal with some basic responsibilities as the low-man on the totem pole.
For the Indiana Pacers and Georges Niang, that means going to get donuts. Like Joe Young and many a rookie before him, Niang dutifully goes out and gets the team donuts, even when they are on the road.
When the team was in Portland last week, Fox Sports Indiana tagged along on Niang’s trip to Voodoo Doughnut.
No word on if he has to get milk to go with them, as Jeff Foster did when he was a rookie.

Foster shared his rookie responsibilities with Jonathan Bender, who was the go-to guy for donuts but thought his task was tougher than Foster’s.
“Being the rookie, I had to go get donuts every morning. I had to go way out of my way to Krispy Kreme; that’s what the specified they wanted, and I had to bring that to practice every morning,” Bender said. “Just something you got to do for the vets: carry bags and get Krispy Kreme.”
Bender joked that they took it easier on the other rookie, Jeff Foster.
“He just had to get milk. He could just stock his refrigerator up at night and then bring it in there,” Bender said.
No word on who the Pacers are sending out for donuts while Niang is with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
