Robby Gordon has finally broken through in what has been a frustrating race, winning the 11th stage of the 2013 Dakar Rally.

Two swollen rivers forced organizers to stop the racers in the car division after 33 miles of the scheduled 137-mile stage on the sand dunes around Fiambala,Argentina.

Gordon was in position to take advantage as he was leading the group.

Gordon has been stellar through most of the stages of the race, regularly running among the top five. He lost significant time after rolling his vehicle in an early stage but has been racing among the leaders since that time.

Stephane Peterhansel finished sixth but maintains a 52-minute overall lead in the division with three days remaining in the competition.

''On every day that brings us closer to the finish, it's important to finish them without making any big mistakes, so it gets us nearer to the podium,'' Peterhansel said. ''It's better to lose a few seconds trying to find the right place to pass than losing several minutes stuck in the mud or water.''
