Seattle Sounders FC winger Steve Zakuani has had surgery to repair a fractured right tibia and fibula.

Zakuani was injured in the third minute of Friday night's game against the Colorado Rapids and was taken from the field on a stretcher. Colorado midfielder Brian Mullan received a red card for the foul in Seattle's 1-0 win.

The Sounders said Saturday that Zakuani would remain at Rose Medical Center in Denver for several days before returning to Seattle.

Zakuani scored 10 goals in 2010 to tie for the team lead. He entered Friday's game as the team's points leader with two goals and two assists.
