Rapids, Toronto end scoreless

Stefan Frei made three saves and undermanned Toronto FC tied 0-0 with the Colorado Rapids on Sunday night.

Frei made two saves in the second half for his third shutout of the season.

Midfielder Oscar Gordan (groin) didn't make the trip while injuries kept midfielders Jacob Peterson (ankle) and Tony Tchani (knee) were out. Midfielder Julian de Guzman served his one-game yellow card suspension for Toronto FC which is winless in five road games.

Matt Pickens made three saves for Colorado, which was without forward Omar Cummings (sprained right ankle) and midfielder Brian Mullan, who served the fifth game of a 10-game suspension.

Connor Casey played only in the first half for Colorado.

Toronto FC didn't have a shot on goal in the first half. Javier Martina's shot from along the baseline went through the goalie box and was deflected harmlessly out of danger.

During the 45th minute, Colorado defender Anthony Wallace's dive blocked away Nick Soolsma's shot before it reached Pickens.

Toronto FC was more aggressive in the second half. Pickens came out of the crease to catch Joao Plata's shot from 20 yards out.

Richard Eckersley broke free to take a shot from 25 yards out in the 50th minute that Pickens stopped with both legs. Mikael Yourassowsky broke loose along the sideline and got off a shot that grazed the crossbar in the 60th minute.

Frei had to make a fingertip save of Wallace's shot from 35 yards out for Colorado. Frei was shaken up briefly when he made a lunging save of a free kick by Sanna Nyassi in the 87th minute.
