The San Jose Earthquakes have won a lottery for Major League Soccer's rights to oft-injured forward Marcus Tracy.

The 26-year-old from Chesnut Hill, Pa., won the 2008 Hermann Trophy as the top college soccer player after helping Wake Forest win the 2007 NCAA title. He spent 2009-11 with Aalborg in Denmark, appearing in a 2009 UEFA Cup quarterfinal against Manchester City and scoring against in the Danish league against Midtjylland, but was sidelined much of the last two years by knee injuries.

San Jose was among eight teams in Thursday's weighted lottery and had a 4.6 percent chance of winning, seventh-best. The lottery was based on a team's record in its last 34 regular-season games.
