USC AD says he was unable to reach Sark to inform him of his firing

USC athletic director Pat Haden said Tuesday he was unable to make contact with Steve Sarkisian to inform him of his termination.

Haden added that he tried for two hours to reach Sarkisian, also making attempts to contact his agent and sister before finally connecting with Sarkisian's brother-in-law. Haden also said he hasn't yet made contact with Sarkisian.

"I also reached out to his agent many times," Haden said. "I also reached out to several family members. ...  I really do look forward to talking to Steve at some point."

As Larry Brown Sports notes, USC fired head coach John Robinson in 1997 over an answering machine. The program also fired head coach Lane Kiffin at an LAX terminal.
