RB Dwayne Washington hopes to carry Huskies' struggling run game

Published Sep. 10, 2015 7:51 p.m. ET

Junior running back Dwayne Washington is ready to shine for the Huskies offense. However, he struggled against Boise State in the season opener as he only gained 14 yards on eight carries. On the night, the Huskies ran for 29 yards on 22 carries.

However, despite struggling against Boise State, Washington wants more carries and is ready to show of his skills as the number one option.

“That’s the plan, to be that main running back,” Washington said Wednesday. “But as far as this offense, we do a lot of rotation. But, yeah, I would like to be that guy.”

Washington implored the coaches to trust his skill set. He also said he has to prove that he's worthy of getting more touches.

“The coaches, they’ve just got to trust what I do,” he said. “I have to give them that mindset that they can’t take me off the field. I’ve got to build trust with my quarterback and my coaches.”
