Penn State tight end Adam Breneman likely needs surgery on an old knee injury and he's expected to miss this season, a source tells FOX Sports.

The former five-star recruit, a sophomore, suffered the injury back in high school and has been dealing with nagging problems with it since. Tight end is PSU's deepest position and Breneman does have a redshirt season to use.

Breneman had 15 receptions for 186 yards and three touchdowns in 2013.
