Louisville Football: How is Eli Rogers doing in the NFL?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Former Louisville football player Eli Rogers is currently with the Pittsburgh Steelers and we take a look at how his season is going.

Eli Rogers received a great amount of attentions after have a solid training camp for the Pittsburgh Steelers only a month ago. The former Louisville football product gained respect from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, receiver Antonio Brown, offensive coordinator Todd Haley over the past few months. The attention from those key individuals earned him the starting slot receiver position.

It has been an up and down season so far for the 2nd year player from the University of Louisville. In his first NFL Start, Rogers caught his first NFL touchdown off of a crazy deflection in the end-zone.

Here are his game-by-game stats for the 2016 season, courtesy of ESPN:

Pittsburgh Steelers at Washington Redskins: 6 receptions, 59 yards, and 1 touchdown

Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers: 1 reception for 9 yards

Pittsburgh Steelers at Philadelphia Eagles: 2 receptions for 32 yards

Unfortunately, Eli Rogers is dealing with a toe injury that is going to keep him sidelined for a few weeks. Here is what CBS Sports had to say about his injury:

“Rogers ditched his walking boot Monday, but he’s still expected to miss at least one more game. His likely absence will leave more snaps and targets for Sammie Coates, Markus Wheaton and Darrius Heyward-Bey (shoulder). Rogers is dealing with turf toe, an injury that often lingers and can have a very unpredictable recovery timetable.”

It sounds as though Rogers should still have his starting job whenever he returns to the football field. He accrued 15 targets from Roethlisberger over the three games he has played in 2016, however he is still more like the third guy on the progression every play.

Rogers has a job in the NFL and that’s more than a lot of people could say, but hopefully he can recover and have a great season.
