Grambling St. wins 7th in a row, beats Alabama St. 21-0

SHREVEPORT, Ala. (AP) Chad Williams had 10 receptions for 145 yards and a score and Grambling State beat Alabama State 21-0 on Saturday for its seventh-consecutive win.

Jestin Kelly had 62 yards rushing on 13 carries with a touchdown and Verlan Hunter had five catches for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Devante Kincade hit Hunter for a 16-yard touchdown to give Grambling State (7-1, 7-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) a 7-0 lead with 10:49 left in the first quarter. After forcing an Alabama State (3-7, 3-6) three-and-out, the Tigers went 85 yards on 12 plays and Kelly's 2-yard run made it 14-0 fewer than 5 minutes later.

Charles Wright connected with Williams on a 43-yard touchdown pass with 43 seconds left.

Alabama State had 381 total yards and had possession for 32 minutes, 19 seconds, but committed 16 penalties for 216 yards. The Hornets converted just 4 of 16 third downs and 0 of 5 fourth downs.

Khalid Thomas had 115 yards rushing and Nygel Lee had seven catches for 107 yards for Alabama State.
