South Carolina athletic spokesman Steve Fink said Friday that Giles violated team and univeristy policy. Giles, a freshman, was the 22nd-ranked Gamecocks second-leading rusher this season with 245 yards. Fink did not know if Giles' suspension extended past the Alabama game.

Fink also said offensive line starter Heath Batchelor would also not make the trip. Multiple media outlets reported that the junior had left the team this week. Fink could not comment on those reports.

In addition, Fink said that two second-teammers would miss the game because of injury in receiver Dion Lecorn and defensive end Byron McKnight.
