The South Carolina Gamecocks appear to be on a recruiting hot streak of late with their latest commitment coming from Virginia athlete JJ Givens.

Givens is listed at six-foot-two, 174-pounds and is ranked as a three-star prospect according 247 Sports. The Gamecocks' newest pledge chose the school despite holding offers from Arizona State, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Penn State and Virginia Tech among others.

Newly announced Elite 11 quarterback, and fellow 2016 South Carolina commit, Brandon McIlwain congratulated his future teammate on the decision to join Carolina.

Givens gave an interview to The State following his commitment to the Gamecocks' 2016 recruiting class and spoke about why he chose South Carolina over so many other excellent options.

“They genuinely have my best interest outside of football and they are definitely going to take care of me,” Givens said. “I feel like I can come here and have an instant impact playing DB, especially at the corner position because I’m long, lanky and versatile. I definitely feel like I can bring what South Carolina needs to be pushed over the hump.”

A visit to campus is what finally sealed the deal for the talented athlete.

“It just made me fall in love and after I talked with Coach Spurrier and Coach Hoke in person I just had to pull the trigger,” Givens said.
