Scott Riddle threw for 452 yards and five touchdowns and Elon racked up 643 yards of total offense en route to a 45-14 victory over Western Carolina on Saturday in Southern Conference action.

The Phoenix (6-5, 5-3) jumped out to a 14-0 lead with 13:21 left in the second quarter after 7-yard touchdown passes from Riddle to Lance Camp and Sean Jeffcoat.

Michael Johnson scored on a 1-yard run to pull the Catamounts (2-9, 1-7) to within seven, 14-7, with 8:57 left before halftime.

Riddle threw his third touchdown pass of the first half - a 20-yard throw to Matt Eastman - to give Elon a 21-7 halftime lead.

A 6-yard touchdown pass from Riddle to Aaron Mellette, a 2-yard scoring run by Brandon Newsome and a 31-yard field goal from Kenton Beal in the third pushed the Phoenix lead to 38-7 entering the fourth quarter.

Newsome finished with a game-high 128 rushing yards.
