Larry McCoy scored three touchdowns and tied a school record with his 21st career 100-yard game as Duquesne rallied from a 17-7 first-quarter deficit to beat Valparaiso 45-17 Saturday.

McCoy, who tied the record set by Donte Small from 1998-2001, rushed for 171 yards and scored on runs of 28, 19 and 6 yards. Sean Patterson completed 20 of 25 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns for the Dukes (2-1).

Valparaiso (0-3) had 176 yards of offense in the first quarter but finished with just 291 compared to 546 for Duquesne. Eric Hoffman was 22 of 38 for 224 yards and a TD for the Crusaders, but was intercepted three times. He also rushed for a touchdown.

Serge Kona had two of the interceptions for Duquesne, which held Valparaiso scoreless on its last 11 possessions.
