Ryu dominates, Seager goes deep as Dodgers beat A’s 4-0
Ryu (1-0) rebounded from a rocky season debut to shut down Oakland. He struck out eight and walked one, handing off to the bullpen after just 90 pitches. Ryu also walked and singled in two plate appearances.
”I felt better coming into today’s game,” Ryu said. ”I had a pretty bad first outing and I wanted to come out and do well. I used to rely more on my changeup, but tonight I utilized all of the other pitches I have.”
After walking Matt Chapman with one out in the first inning, Ryu retired 13 in a row, including six strikeouts. Stephen Piscotty’s two-out single in the fifth was the A’s first hit of the game.
Manaea gave up seven hits and two runs over five innings. He has a 1.74 ERA through three starts.
”Overall, I thought I pitched well, except for two bad pitches,” Manaea said. ”I made a bad pitch in a bad location to Taylor, but Seager really hit a good pitch, there’s nothing you can do about that one.”
Kemp homered to right-center in the sixth off Liam Hendriks, and Logan Forsythe added an RBI double.
”It felt good, any home run feels good, especially that one,” said Kemp, who hit his first Dodgers homer since 2014. ”I think we all got our first ones out of the way and now we can really get this thing going.”
