Impact The 6-10 sophomore made his first start of the season as the Pirates tried to contend with Michigan State's size. After scoring 14 points in the opener, Cason had scored a combined 12 points in the subsequent four games. He will likely return to the bench on Thursday against St. Bonaventure.

In five games this season, none of them off East Carolina's bench, Caulker has averaged 8.2 points, 3.2 assists and 2.2 rebounds. On the other hand, he also averaged 2.4 turnovers and shot 25.9 percent from the field.

It was the third game in which the 6-10 senior had accrued at least four fouls. He will have to be at his best to produce against Michigan State on Tuesday.

Impact It isn't a great sign that the Pirates had to eek out a win over a Division II school. It is, however, a continued great sign to see Emejuru produce. The 6-10 center is averaging 20.0 points and 10.7 rebounds, and now has consecutive double-doubles. Look for more production Tuesday against UNC-Wilmington.
