Report: Plane that crashed was not one funded by Eagles fans to taunt Cowboys

UPDATE: As the identity of the pilot of a plane that crashed Sunday in Compton, Calif., continues to be sorted out by the Federal Aviation Administration's Pacific Division, new reports claimed the plane was not actually the one chartered by Eagles fans.

Stephen McKenzie of 6ABC in Philadelphia reports the Eagles' plane was never able to take off and that the pilot of that plane is safe.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the plane that went down was trying to hook a Bud Light banner.

Kate Larsen of NBC Los Angeles is reporting that the Eagles' plane was actually the next one scheduled to take off.

The Eagles fan responsible for scheduling a banner to fly over the Cowboys' camp took to Twitter to clarify that he doesn't know which plane crashed and regardless of the FAA investigation, all the money raised will still be donated to the victim's family.

Some light-hearted rivalry fun quickly took a tragic turn Sunday when a plane chartered by Philadelphia Eagles fans crashed shortly after takeoff in Compton, Calif., killing the pilot.

The plane was funded by Eagles fans to fly a banner over nearby Dallas Cowboys training camp, according to NJ Advance Media's Matt Lombardo.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the single engine plane crashed around 12:30 p.m. PT at Compton-Woodley Airport. The pilot was the only person on board at the time of the tragedy. (Refresh page if below photos don't appear.)

The plane was perhaps a response to Dallas Cowboys fans, who charted a plane to fly over the Eagles training camp Sunday morning that read "WE STILL DEM BOYZ! #SACKSCOMIN!"

According to The Associated Press, Greg Hardy contributed $300 for the flight.

Cowboys and Eagles fans both started Go Fund Me pages to fly banners over the rival's training camp. According to the Dallas Morning News, the creator of the Eagles' Go Fund Me page tweeted that the plane that crashed was the one he chartered.

Up until the crash, Eric Michael (@TheMightyEROCK) had been live-tweeting a countdown to the plane's flight over Oxnard, Calif.

The banner was alleged to read "We Got DeMarco."

There has been no official confirmation of the pilot's name or where the plane was headed.

Michael tweeted any money raised will be donated to the family of the pilot. Since news broke of the crash, both Eagles and Cowboys fans have been donating to the original Go Fund Me page to support the victim's family.
