Peyton gets pretty salty responding to questions about performance in Broncos' 19-13 win
Quarterback and pizza proprietor Peyton Manning delivered extra salt with some of his remarks after a 19-13 Broncos victory over the Ravens on Sunday in which Denver failed to score an offensive touchdown.
Manning completed 24 of 40 passes for just 175 yards and one interception. The 39-year-old has almost always been very gracious toward media members, even after heartbreaking defeats, but it sounds as though he wasn't interested in dissecting his or the offense's poor showing.
"If you need a catchy headline for your little article or whatever it is you might be doing, we're trying to get better every single week," said Manning, his analysis dripping with condescension, according to Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post.
Broncos running backs Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson combined for just 70 yards on 24 carries, an average of just 2.9 yards per tote. But a win is a win (unless it's given away, hey Giants!) as the Broncos are still getting acclimated to a new playbook under head coach Gary Kubiak.
Manning added that "I'm going with fair" when asked to assess his performance.
After a short week of rest before visiting the Chiefs on Thursday, Manning will look to elevate his performance to strong... to quite strong.
"What's another cliche I can think of?" Manning said. "We're chipping away."
