World Cup Of Hockey Team Europe Wins In Overtime
Team Europe improved to 2-0 in the World Cup Of Hockey with their overtime win over Team Czech Republic.
Team Europe was able to get their second win of the tournament due to a Leon Draisaitl goal. They have been a surprising team so far in the World Cup Of Hockey. Unfortunately for the Czech Republic squad they suffered their second loss after a Canadian beating in their first game.
Jaroslav Halak may have lost his shutout streak but he still looked good between the pipes. One of the goals he gave up was on the power play so it’s tough to fault him too much for that one.
The Islanders goalie earned the starting job over teammate Thomas Greiss. If Halak continues to play this way chances are he will remain the starter when both Halak and Greiss return to the Isles.
The surprising story here is the success of Team Europe. The United States was supposed to beat them, but Europe demolished the US. Part of the reason for that was the stellar play of Jaroslav Halak.
Now today they needed overtime but were still able to get the job done. The criticism of Team Europe was that it was just Anze Kopitar and that’s about it. They’ve proven that they are a much deeper team than just Kopitar.
They now have the tough task of taking on the Canadian team. The Canadian’s are stacked from top to bottom and are the clear favorites.
The key to Team Europe winning will be Halak. They are going to need him to stand on his head and potentially bail them out in key situations. Canada as the real favorites, are a perfect test for the Europe team.
If Europe can beat Team Canada then they are legit, if not maybe they’re just a team that got hot at the right time
